The Threat of Microplastics
Microplastics are pieces of plastic debris smaller than 5 millimeters in size. They are found in oceans and aquatic systems and pose a threat to human and marine life. These microplastics have created a significant enough problem that they have been classified as contaminants. There have been many attempts to solve this problem, such as ocean cleanups and government regulations, but the issue still persists.
Peroxymonosulfate has been used as a method in the past to help degrade these microplastics. My research focuses on creating a natural catalyst to enhance this process to help further degrade microplastics.
